My what marvelous times

My my what a marvelous few weeks these have been, best I just go from the beginning.

Last month or so we applied for the Brezmejnik challenge where, upon winning, we will be taken on an excursion to Silicon Valley for a month in autumn 2010. A few weeks ago we applied for a competition of innovative and great innovations.

This is where the fun begins.

  1. Two weeks ago we found out we were among the 18 best in Brezmejnik after a phone interview.
  2. Last week a presentation before judges took place and we had a blast
  3. Early this week we've found out we were among the 5 best innovations in Slovenia on the start:up innovation competition thingy
  4. Yesterday we found out that we've made it into the finals of Brezmejnik, sort of the winners of first round. So all next year we will be competing against 9 other teams for a spot on the Silicon Valley excursion. Wewt!
And what's even better, a designer has joined our team and Preona is finally going to have a proper look and feel and everything that goes along with sticking in people's minds.

Preona and The Synaptic Web

After being shortlisted for Seedcamp we have gone into hiding for a few months to work on our strategy, develop our product and figure out how we want to tackle the problem of information overload. We've made some public presentations here and there around the country, mostly here rather than 'there', did a lot of work on developing algorithms and learning heaps of great new things, but mostly we've had a deep hard look at ourselves.

And then there came yesterday. We were working on our executive summary and suddenly this great buzzword enters the room. Synaptic web.

Hmmm ... say that again? Synaptic web. Yes, flows very nicely, goes easy on the ears, sounds incredibly sexy and what's that?

Well what do you know, it would seem that the synaptic web is exactly what we've been trying to do for a while. You can't imagine how happy I am to see someone (Khris LouxEric BlantzChris Saad) construct a whole new concept around our efforts. Granted, since we've been working on this for almost a year we should've been the ones to come up with the name, but hey, can't have everything right?

Honestly, I will be perfectly content if we are the first big player on the synaptic web, who cares if we weren't the ones to come up with the name.

London here we come

Although so far this blog has only served as somewhere to post the Information Butler's presentation video, it will henceforth serve as a team blog where I will be describing ... things that go on with the team and the product.

Right now the only news to report is that we've been shortlisted for Seedcamp (yay! \o/) and will be in London next wednesday for our presentation before a panel of, probably, very scary judges. The rest of the time we will kill by talking about information overload on speaker's corner in Hyde Park, do come say hello, and by prowling London. I've been dying to see that one special room in British Museum that looks like 19th century study hall, so that's one hour killed.

Well if you're around London on Wednesday, do give us a poke on Twitter (@swizec) and we can mutually say ciao.
